Mineral adhesive for thermal insulating panels on ETICS

BASIC FIX 53 is a cement based adhesive, one-component modified with polymer additives for bonding of EPS thermal insulating boards on exterior thermal insulation systems for buildings. It consists of cement, quartz sand fillers and special additives. It presents strong adhesion on all the usual mineral substrates and thermal insulation boards and resistance to frost and humidity. It complies with EN 998-1 and EN 13494 European standards. It is suitable to use for repairing damaged facades and preventing cracking on walls both indoors and outdoors.

SURFACE PREPARATION AND APPLICATION

The application substrate must be even, free from frail and foreign parts like e.g. residues of mud, plaster, color, oils, etc. and without any large cracks. Additionally, the substrate must be stable and free from shrinkage and deformation tensions and it must not receive vibrations. In a clean container add 5.0-5.5L of clean water and gradually empty the content of a 25Kg bag of BASIC FIX 53 while mixing continuously with a low-speed electric paddle until the mixture is free of lumps. Allow the mortar to mature for 5 minutes and mix again. Depending on the weather conditions the mixture is ready to use within the next 2-4 hours. After the preparation of the mixture do not add additional water to correct the workability of the mortar.
» Application on level surfaces:
BASIC FIX 53 is applied on the thermal insulating board using the even side of the stainless steel trowel and the adhesive layer is then combed informingly with its toothed side.
» Application on uneven surfaces:
BASIC FIX 53 is spread with a trowel around the perimeter of the thermal insulating panel and 3 spots of adhesive in the middle of the panel provided that after the panel has been pressed onto the substrate a minimum adhesive surface area of 40 % is achieved. The boards are pressed firmly on the wall in order to ensure uniform contact of the adhesive. The final surface must be completely leveled. The open time is 15 minutes after the adhesive is applied. Any surplus adhesive must be removed from the joints. If the adhesive dries before the thermal insulating panel is applied, remove it and apply a fresh layer.
» Application as repairing mortar:
BASIC FIX 53 is applied with a trowel or a mortar mixer depending on the project. The maximum application thickness should not be exceed 5mm. Finishing should be carried out to the required surface texture as soon as mortar has started to stiffen with a sponge float or a metal spreader. Do not over-trowel as this may lead to surface cracking.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

» Tools: Stainless steel trowel, mortar mixer.
» Cleaning of tools: Clean all tools and application equipment with water immediately after use. Hardened material can only be mechanically removed.
» Stir well with a flat paddle, before application, and at regular intervals during application.
» After the preparation of the mixture do not add additional water to correct the workability of the mortar.
» Do not apply at temperatures below 5ºC or above 35ºC.
» Do not apply if rain is imminent or on masonries directly exposed to intense solar radiation or on warm substrates.

STORAGE

» Stored on wooden palettes and in a dry environment with the temperature above 5ºC for 12 months from the production date.
